Announcing Amma
Jamie O’Gorman and Rick O’Gorman announce the birth of a daughter, Amma Blossom O’Gorman, on July 8 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Amma weighed 7 pounds at birth.
The cleanup of some 260 oyster bags that have been floating in Menemsha Pond for several months was completed this week by the natural resources department of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).
Work crews logged 57 hours over six days to complete the cleanup project on both the Aquinnah and Chilmark sides of the pond, tribal administrator Tobias Vanderhoop said yesterday.
“The bags have been assembled in the aquaculture zone and are being inventoried and then returned to the lines,” Mr. Vanderhoop said.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission will hold three forums this summer to present and discuss preliminary Island Plan findings from two new work groups and the steering committee, and to give members of the community the opportunity to provide their input. Each forum is open to the public, is free, and will take place at 7:30 p.m.
This summer’s forums are:
• Transportation, Monday, July 14, at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven,
• Built Environment, Monday, August 4, at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs,
Student Honored
Elizabeth Edwards, a member of the class of 2008 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., earned academic recognition at the college this spring. She is the daughter of John and Mary Edwards of Edgartown.
