On Saturday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m. the Martha’s Vineyard Museum celebrates the opening of its new exhibit, Those Who Serve — Martha’s Vineyard and World War II, with an afternoon program featuring Vineyard veterans of World War II. Guest speakers will include Ted Morgan of Edgartown, who served as a medic with the 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Morgan will speak of his experience in six campaigns, including jumps into Normandy and France as part of the D-Day operations; Italy, Sicily, Holland and the Battle of the Bulge.

Senior Discount
Thursdays will be senior discount day at the Thrift Shop at Chicken Alley in Vineyard Haven. Everything in the Store will be 20 per cent off for seniors, age 55 and over. This discount will apply to all items in the store including those marked “not half.” The new senior discount day will replace mystery day begins Thursday, Nov. 19.
The flu outbreak at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School appears to have subsided this week, but the majority of Island children still have not been immunized against swine flu, because local health authorities cannot secure enough vaccine.
And the all-Island clinic held on Wednesday to vaccinate people against seasonal flu, planned to run four hours, was ended after just two when supplies of that vaccine also ran out.
The Vineyard Committee on Hunger, Serving Hands and Family to Family, along with Reliable Market, are working together to ensure that Island families in need will have a great Thanksgiving meal. Islanders can sponsor one of these families by contributing $25, which will cover the cost of one family’s meal, Make checks out to the Vineyard Committee on Hunger; indicate it is for the Family-to-Family Program and send it to the VCOH, PO Box 1874, VH 02568.
Islanders will get a chance tomorrow morning to learn first-hand about the four Democratic candidates looking to fill the Massachusetts seat in the U.S. Senate that was left vacant when longtime Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy died in August.
A candidates forum will be held tomorrow morning at the Howes House in West Tisbury from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. None of the candidates is expected to attend, although each will send a representative. At press time yesterday, it was still unclear who would attend the forum on behalf of each candidate.
