Ms. Murphy Graduates

Jennifer Murphy, daughter of James and Susan Murphy of Vineyard Haven, graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. with a degree in buisness administration this past May. Jennifer particpated in varsity field hocky, lacrosse and the student-athlete advisory committee and graduated Cum Laude.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts’ Camp Wampanoag in Chilmark want you to spend your summer vacation having fun at Girl Scout camp.

Camp Wampanoag will have two summer camp sessions: August 23 to 27, and August 30 to Sept. 3 for girls in grades one to six. The programs will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. Come for a day or all ten! Each day offers new and exciting programs tailored to each age level. Girls can meet new friends and connect with old friends.

David McCullough, Arthur R. Railton and Tobias Jonathan Vanderhoop will be awarded the Martha’s Vineyard Medal in a ceremony at the annual meeting of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum on Monday, August 9, at 5 p.m. at the Federated Church on South Summer street in Edgartown.

The medal is awarded annually to leaders in the community in recognition of their outstanding commitment to preserving the history, arts and culture of Martha’s Vineyard.

These are all titles of books that Seen the Glory: A Novel of the Battle of Gettysburg author John Hough Jr. was encouraged to read in his research for the book. They are not titles that were available at Mr. Hough’s local library in West Tisbury.

But he got them anyway.

Twelve Metre Regatta

The Edgartown Yacht Club Twelve Metre Regatta for classic vintage, classic traditional, modern and grand prix 12 metre class yachts will be held in the waters off Edgartown on Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8.
