Two Vineyard Haven men were arrested in Oak Bluffs on Friday afternoon after they were found with a quantity of drugs, including heroin, marijuana, hashish and prescription drugs, police said.
Oak Bluffs police arrested Jeffrey Sylvia, 23, and Jeffrey Rancourt, also 23, both of Vineyard Haven, at about 2 p.m. Friday in the Our Market parking lot, where they were in Mr. Rancourt’s pickup truck. “The two men had arrived to make a drug deal,” a press release from the Oak Bluffs police said.
The Town of Tisbury will be testing the Emergency Notification System on Thursday, June 30, at 6 p.m.
Oak Bluffs Library Hours
The Oak Bluffs Public Library will have new hours of operation for July and August. Starting July 7, and through August, the library will open at 2 p.m. on Thursdays (open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
There is no change in the open hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays (all 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or Saturdays (10 a.m. to 4 p.m).
The library is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Few in the audience were unmoved at the end of Assertions, a song, dance and theatre performance about bullying.
The Thursday night performance took place at the Performing Arts Center at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, and was a collaborative effort among Island schools — both the regional high school and the charter school — IMP Improv for kids, YMCA dancers, Joanne Cassidy and other musical guests.
Baseball Awards
Two Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School baseball players earned post-season accolades: Senior pitcher Ben Ciciora and sophomore shortstop Jack Roberts were named to the Eastern Athletic Conference All Star Team.
Ciciora was among the league leaders in earned run average.
Roberts was among the league leaders in batting average and also played outstanding defense at shortstop.
