Heal yourself, or at least let the bounty of nature, rather than lab created chemicals, do the job.
On Tuesday, July 26, local expert Holly Bellebuono of Vineyard Herbs, will conduct a hands on salve-making workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Polly Hill Arboretum. The event starts with a walk to identify and collect medicinal herbs and weeds on the arboretum grounds. After the walk participants make their own oil infusions and beeswax-based ointments. Supplies are included and everyone gets to take home their new medicine.
Tennis by Design
Looking good and swinging good. Next Friday, July 29, Stina Sayre Design is hosting a fashion show and cocktail party to benefit Vineyard Youth Tennis. The event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Shephard Fine ArtSpace located at 8 Uncas avenue in Oak Bluffs.
The dips in the hills and the swirls in the clay may change with the passing of time, but the view from the top of the Gay Head Light always will be a staggering one. From the balcony, nature is laid out before you: The ocean winks as the waves roll in, hopeful fishermen scour the deep, and the cliffs proudly stand as witnesses to all that has taken place here.
Chilmark town officials have posted a closure for Squibnocket Beach due to an unacceptably high average bacterial count.
The closure sign, which says bathers may choose to swim at their own risk, was required by the state Department of Public Health regulations.
The sign explains to swimmers:
“These regulations state that the average of the last five bacterial water samples must be below a certain level. Our average is still slightly above the required limit.
Four beaches in Oak Bluffs have been closed to swimming as of Wednesday morning, after fresh water testing showed unacceptably high bacteria levels.
Pay Beach, Inkwell Beach, Eastville Beach and Madeiros Cove on Barnes Road are closed.
State Beach is open for swimming,
West Tisbury beaches are open. Beaches there also had been closed last week but fresh tests showed the water was safe from high levels of enterococcus bacteria.
Six Edgartown establishments have been reported to the selectmen after an under-age alcohol sweep by the town police on Friday.
The Edgartown police department’s underage alcohol enforcement operation targeted three areas: South Beach, liquor stores, and liquor serving establishments.
Arrests were made at South Beach and summonses were made at liquor stores.
