African American Festival
The seventh annual African American Cultural Festival takes place on July 28 and 29 at Hartford Park in Oak Bluffs, with daily activities from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday at 6 p.m., broadcast news journalist Carol Simpson reads from her new book. From 9:30 to midnight there will be a teen dance party.
On Friday at 6 p.m. Jessica Harris discusses her book.
The festival is free.
All Vineyard beaches are open as of Friday afternoon.
In Chilmark, Squibnocket has reopened; signs warning that swimming was at your own risk have been removed. Town health agent Marina Lent said the state confirmed that average bacteria readings were at acceptable levels, after an anomalous high reading.
In Oak Bluffs, Inkwell beach has reopened today, Oak Bluffs health agent Shirley Fauteux confirmed; all beaches in town are now open.
Edgartown School principal John Stevens has announced the honor roll for the fourth quarter of the 2010-2011 academic year.

Six Edgartown establishments have been reported to the selectmen after an under-age alcohol sweep by the town police on Friday.
South Beach, liquor stores and liquor serving establishments were the target of a special underage enforcement operation.
Arrests were made at South Beach and summonses were issued at liquor stores.
The Holmes Hole Sailing Association continued its summer season of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven harbor with a night race on July 7.
Thursday night was a nice evening with a 5 knot south wind. Seventeen boats posted for the 6 p.m. start at red nun 6. The course took the fleet to nun 4 at West Chop, then to green can 23a at East Chop and back to nun 6. The first leg was a run downwind. After rounding the nun, a starboard reach to the can was followed by a beat to windward to the finish line.
Baseball Hosts
Today, Friday, July 22, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks will be hosting Island Elderly Housing at their 5 p.m. baseball games. Game time is 5 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School baseball field.
