Martha’s Vineyard may receive up to 9 inches of snow before nightfall, the National Weather Service reports. Snowfall is likely to continue through 9 p.m., with accumulation decreasing after 6 p.m.

Several Island businesses are closed due to the weather, including State Road restaurant and Vineyard Haven Library.

A presentation about the future of Mill Pond, scheduled to take place at the West Tisbury Library on Saturday, Jan. 21, has been postponed to Jan. 28 due to illness. The time of the talk remains the same: 3:30 p.m.

President of the Sea Run Brook Trout Coalition Michael Hopper will visit the Island on that date to discuss the possibility and benefits of damming, versus dredging, the West Tisbury pond.

A memorial service for Adelbert (Buddy) L. Sylvia of Edgartown will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven, officiated by the Rev. Ellen Tatreau. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The above information has been updated from the notice that appeared in the print version of today’s Gazette.

Buddy died on Oct. 27. He was 78.

He is survived by his loving wife Gloria J. (King) Sylvia and a son, Gary Sylvia, of Edgartown. He was the father of the late Dennis W. Sylvia.

Bookstore owner David LeBreton confirmed Friday that he and his wife Ann will close the Main street Edgartown store this winter after 10 years in business.

“We want to move away from the bookselling business. It’s been a wonderful experience, and this just seemed like the right time,” Mr. LeBreton told the Gazette by telephone on Friday.

A For Rent sign went up in the window of Edgartown Books on Thursday; the LeBretons, who live in Dedham and Edgartown, own the building and intend to rent the space.
