Please Adopt Us

For some time the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has been without a single dog looking for a home, but as of this week we have just one — an adorable little pug named Rascal who is eight years old and as sweet as can be. Rascal loves people and Gordon at the shelter is so happy that he now has a dog to walk; we all hope anyone looking for a small wonderfully good-natured dog will come see Rascal. And you can take him for a walk!

Nursing Rehab Manager

The Vineyard Nursing Association has named Kathleen Samways, PT, DPT, manager of rehabilitation services and continuous quality improvement. The VNA said it created the new position to respond to the growth in demand for physical and occupational therapy services, which has more than doubled in five years. In 2007 there were 296 therapy patients, the VNA said; in 2011, 654 patients sought the same services.

Edgartown resoundingly approved funding for a new town library Thursday, voting 480 to 206 in favor of spending $4.9 million on the project.

"I'm just so proud of Edgartown — what a great gift for the town to give to itself, for our kids, for our seniors, and also for our future," said Chris Scott, executive director of Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust and a former member of the library building committee.

Voters also approved $272,000 for Massachusetts Estuaries Program studies of Cape Pogue, Poucha Pond, Katama Bay and Oyster Pond by a margin of 453 to 233.

The hall was filled with people, the message from the minister powerful.

“Go and testify to the way God works, for that is what Jesus’s life, ministry, death and resurrection is all about,” said the Rev. Cathlin Baker to conclude the Easter service last Sunday morning. “Jesus showed us the way God works. And so now we know — life overcomes death, and love conquers sin. We are Easter people, people who are to bring hope to the world, to bring light from the shadows. So go and tell, go and tell.”
