It’s a celebration, not a fundraiser

That was the story line in a recent news release from the Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group, which will host an event this month for the pure reason of having a party. Called a Celebration of Survival and Support, the event will be held at the Portuguese American Club on Sunday, March 10. The party begins at 5 p.m. All are welcome; there is no admission fee and no auction.

They came ready for a rematch, and that's what they got. On Saturday afternoon the boys' basketball team topped defending title-holders Wareham to claim the title of Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association Division 3 South Section champions. They now advance to the statewide Division 3 tournament semifinals on Tuesday at the TD Garden.

For the second year in a row, the boys’ basketball team is headed to the finals of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association sectional tournament after defeating Medway 70-60 Monday evening in Taunton. With the win, the boys improved their season record to 17-5 and advance to the Division 3 South Section finals, which will be played this Saturday at UMass-Boston.

There is good news on the Vineyard waterfront for those who love to eat fresh-caught fish. This summer, for the first time in many years, black sea bass will be available in restaurants and fish markets. Sea bass are abundant in surrounding waters, a commercial quota system in place has meant that the quota would be landed early in the fishing season.
