The Charles W. Morgan arrived at Vineyard Haven harbor to a barrage of cannonfire and boat horns while onlookers gathered to witness her arrival, some in tears. The Morgan is the last wooden whaling ship in the world.
The manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Airport has been granted a medical leave for an undisclosed length of time. Commission chairman Norman Perry said Wednesday that he granted the leave request to manager Sean Flynn earlier in the week, before meeting in executive session with his board.
Hampered by delays and rising construction costs, the second phase of a planned solar project built by the Cape and Vineyard Electrical Cooperative in Tisbury has been cancelled. The town selectmen made an announcement about the decision Tuesday night.
Making history, the bark Morgan, the last remaining wooden whaling ship, has left Newport, R.I. and is bound for the Vineyard. The ship will be visible from the north shore as she sails through Vineyard Sound. She is scheduled to arrive at Tisbury Wharf Wednesday afternoon.
