License Plate Auction

The online charitable auction for Cape and Islands license plate numbers 1 through 999 kicks off Tuesday, July 8 at capeandislandsplate.com. 

Bidding for the plates begins on Tuesday and continues through August 1, 2008.

Closing times will vary by plate, so bidders should note the ending time on the website.

The minimum bid for plate numbers 1-10 will be $10,000; the minimum bid for plate numbers 11 – 100 will be $1000; and the minimum bid for plates101 - 999 will be $100.

Suits and gowns floated around a crowded room at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown Friday night, their occupants casually inspecting the art that covered the tables. Occasionally they’d put their cocktails down to sign their names next to a price.

The Federated Church of Edgartown again will hold clam chowder suppers this summer.

Last year the church raised over $1,600 for the Island Food Pantry during these events, which are held Thursday evenings in the church Parish House prior to the Thursday evening concerts by The Vineyard Sound held in the Federated Church Meetinghouse on South Summer street in Edgartown.

Outerland is calling all male and female carpenters, builders, electricians, plumbers and other handy types to compete in its third annual hard-hatted hunky carpenter contest. The thrills begin Friday, June 27 when club doors open at 7:30 p.m. — the drills and skills tests begin at 9.

Built on Stilts

Built on Stilts, the Island’s own annual dance festival, will celebrate its 12th season with performances August 15 to 19 and 23 and 24, 2008. Submission guidelines and registration info can be found online at builtonstilts.org. Registration deadline is Monday, July 1.
