Meadow Arrives

Madison Ibsen and Thomas Christopher, of Oak Bluffs, announce the birth of a daughter, Meadow Kay Christopher, born on July 27.

 

 

 

No Contest Up-Island

Chilmark voters will elect a new selectman next month.

Four-term selectman Frank Fenner has decided not to seek reelection, and William Rossi will run for the seat. Mr. Rossi, a real estate agent in Edgartown and owner of the Chilmark Store, ran against selectman Jonathan Mayhew and lost in 2010.

Nomination papers were due this week. The annual town election is April 25.

There are no contested races and no candidates have filed nomination papers for the position of fence viewer.

Zephrus Open

Zephrus restaurant in Vineyard Haven opened Thursday for dinner after a spring cleaning. The restaurant is serving a full dinner menu nightly, seven days a week from 5 p.m. Chef Benjamin deForest will offer nightly specials and a tasting menu.

Hello Jackson

Melissa and Bill Callahan of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a son, Jackson Thomas Callahan, born on Feb. 24, 2012, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Jackson weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces at birth and joins big brother Griffin.

Ernie May Named Coach

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks have signed Ernie May as head coach for the 2012 baseball season, general manager Jerry Murphy announced this week.

The Sharks will be running personal and group clinics this summer that will be supported by the players and Mr. May’s coaching staff, starting with free team clinics on June 10 at three different fields on the Vineyard for the six teams in Little League and for each team in the newly-formed Junior League.

Counselor Training Begins

The regional office of the Massachusetts SHINE program has announced that a new training course for Vineyard residents will be offered beginning April 23. The five-day training program will prepare participants for the state certification exam to become a counselor for the state program that provides free and unbiased health insurance counseling for Medicare beneficiaries.
