The Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank announced this week that president and chief executive officer Christopher Wells had resigned abruptly.
Bank trustees announced the resignation on Wednesday in a brief press release, saying only that Mr. Wells had abruptly resigned effective immediately for personal reasons.
“We thank Chris for his service to the bank and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said board chairman Philip J. Norton Jr.
Bookstore browsers and readers of all ages, rejoice: Edgartown Books, one of the Island’s two bookstores, will open today under new ownership.
The Main street store, which was put on the market earlier this year, was purchased last week by Jeffrey and Joyce Sudikoff, Los Angeles residents who own a home in Edgartown. The sale of the building and the business closed last Friday, May 18.
The building was sold for $1.525 million; the sale of the business was not included in the price.
LEED House
Squash Meadow Construction Inc. has completed Vineyard Haven’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified home. The home, owned by John and Anne Grandin and designed by Sullivan-O’Connor Architects, is the first to be certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in Vineyard Haven. LEED is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance homes that use less energy, water and natural resources and create less waste. Squash Meadow also built Oak Bluffs first LEED home in 2009.
Alpaca Award
She started in the corporate world and gave it all up for alpaca. Now Barbara Ronchetti will be honored for Building a Better Mousetrap.
The award, presented by small business counseling group Cape Cod SCORE, is given to 15 small business that have survived five years of operation and appear headed for long-term success. Ms. Ronchetti, who began the Island Alpaca Company in 2004, was selected by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Morris is a certified health coach by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, and has recently added holistic health counseling to her established massage practice.
Change is on the way for the Island’s music scene, as the Edgartown board of selectmen approved an alcohol license transfer from Nectar’s nightclub to Flatbread Pizza Company on Monday.
