Party Time in a Square That’s Hip

It’s summer on Winter street in Edgartown and there’s a block party going on tomorrow.

The historic Dreamland building in Oak Bluff may soon be more than just a fading facade seen from the street.

JB Blau, a well-known Island businessman and restaurant owner, has announced plans to turn the second floor of the building into a music and entertainment spot. A grand opening is planned for July 13 with a group of Island bands, followed by a summer-long lineup of entertainment that includes comedy acts, a CD release party and more musical events.

Health Care Grant

Island Health Care in Edgartown has received a $102,180.26 grant from the Patrick-Murray Administration. It is one of 27 hospitals and community health centers throughout Massachusetts to receive a total of $3 million in infrastructure and capacity-building funds. The money is intended to enhance global payment system transitions, expand access and form patient-centered medical homes for populations in need.

Boatbuilders Honored

Gannon and Benjamin Marine Railway was honored on Saturday in a tribute dinner at the 21st annual wooden boat show in Mystic Seaport. Nat Benjamin, Ross Gannon and Brad Abbott earned high praise from Jon Wilson, founder and editor in chief of Wooden Boat magazine, who said the boatbuilders “. . . embarked on an enterprise and a way of life that has brought them — for more than 30 years — peerless reputation and world renown. The Gannon and Benjamin Marine Railway became much more than a small business.”

Jet Service Announced

JetSuite, a private jet charter service started by the founder of JetBlue, announced this week it has introduced service to hundreds of airports throughout the Northeast, including Martha’s Vineyard airport.

The airline operates a fleet of brand-new Embraer Phenom 100s, which travel throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
