With the Aquinnah Shop the only restaurant open at the cliffs this fall and at least two shops shuttered this summer, town leaders and shop owners are discussing the next steps. Lots at the Circle are traditionally leased only to tribal members.

Katama Bay oyster farms reopened for business Thursday morning after a two-week closure because of Vibrio illness traced to consumption of raw oysters harvested from the water. The 12 aquaculture farms operating on the bay were back up and running early Thursday.

Clint Slone and Nick Slone are the founders of Spurcycle, a high-end bicycle accessory company in San Francisco. An Edgartown School and regional high school graduate, Clint began working at Edgartown Bicycles, owned by his stepfather, at the age of seven.

Traffic was up on SSA ferries in July and August and most Island businesses in the tourism sector said spending was up this summer. An improving national economy, lower gas prices and an unbroken stretch of hot, sunny beach days were all factors.
