Free Computer Classes
A series of free classes for beginner and intermediate computer users will be offered at the Oak Bluffs Public Library this winter. Sign up now to improve your computer knowledge and skills, learn how to use Microsoft Word and Excel, and discover new Internet search tools and techniques. Space is limited for the classes; please call 508-693-9433 and speak to a library staff member to reserve your seat. The computer classes have been made possible in part by a donation from the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank.
Life Drawing Series
With the aid of a live model, artist Greg Watson will teach a four-week series of figure drawing classes for beginners and experts alike.
The classes begin Thursday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Tavern.
Mr. Watson studied traditional drawing and painting techniques at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and later apprenticed with Odd Nerdrum in Norway and Iceland.
Oceanographer Andrew McDonnell will share photographs, stories and basic science from his research and travels to Antarctica on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven Public Library, exploring some of the scenery, wildlife and people that make Antarctica such a unique and magnificent place.
UMass Extension is accepting applications for the keystone program, an intensive three-day seminar on forest ecology and management, wildlife management, land protection and community outreach being held at the Harvard Forest in Petersham, April 15 to 18.
Designed to train landowners and community leaders in forest conservation, the program’s goal is to prepare each participant to serve as a source of information for local landowners, communities and organizations.
West Tisbury-based author Paul Schneider is giving a talk, Finding the Narrative Voice in a World of Facts, this Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. Mr. Schneider is the author of several popular nonfiction titles, including the best-selling The Enduring Shore: A History of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. His most recent work, Bonnie and Clyde: The Lives Behind the Legend, was published last spring. Saturday’s talk will focus on Mr.
Author Paul Schneider will discuss his approach to developing the narrative voice in nonfiction and his research for his upcoming book on the Mississippi River. This event is part of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum Speakers Series and will take place on Jan. 30, at 3 p.m., in the museum’s library at 59 School street in Edgartown.
