Military Chaplain Talk

Oak Bluffs police officer and chaplain David Berube will be speaking at the Faith Community Church in Edgartown on Sunday, March 21, about his recent experience being a chaplain at the Mortuary Affairs Operations Center, Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The Dover base is the first stop on American soil for the remains of fallen servicemen and women.

Fossil Fred

The Vineyard Haven Public Library presents Connecting with Fossils, an interactive and illustrative talk to be given by Fred Hotchkiss on Tuesday, March 23, beginning at 7 p.m. Connecting with fossils has many dimensions including artistic inspiration and personal wonderment. No prior experience is necessary. Dr. Hotchkiss will bring an assortment of fossils he usually takes to Vineyard classrooms. Feel free to bring fossils of your own for identification.

Doll Club Display

A traveling doll and book exhibit by the Green Mountain Doll Club of Vermont is on display at the Oak Bluffs Public Library. The dolls portray characters from children’s books, fiction and nonfiction. The exhibit will be in the children’s room through March 26.

Red Cross Classes

American Red Cross will hold an Adult CPR/AED and First Aid Class in Oak Bluffs on March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and costs $50 for Adult CPR/AED or $60 for Adult CPR/AED and First Aid.

The combined class covers rescue breathing, first aid for choking, recognizing a heart attack, and Adult CPR and AED knowledge as well as skills necessary to recognize and care for injuries and sudden illness. The First Aid certification is valid for three years and the Adult CPR/AED certification is valid for one year.

Sail MV Registration

Sail Martha’s Vineyard, the Island’s community sailing program, offers beginner through advanced sailing classes to children at the Sailing Camp Park on Barnes Road in Oak Bluffs. Registration for the summer sailing programs will take place on Saturday, March 13, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Sail MV building at 110 Main street in Vineyard Haven.

Students from age 8 to 16 years old are eligible to participate.
