Revised Yellow House Plan Attracts Lone Bid
A sole applicant is in the running in Edgartown’s second search for someone to lease and renovate the Yellow House.

North Dakota has come through, making it a clean sweep of donations from 50 states for radio station WMVY.
And the popular Vineyard station that was in danger of going silent after an NPR station purchased its signal, has nearly reached its fundraising goal.
"We are hoping to do it in the next 24 hours," Barbara Dacey, director of programming for WMVY, told the Gazette at press time Thursday. "We don't know. It's all up to everybody else," she added.
While elaborate plans continue to unfold for moving a large Chappaquiddick house, the Edgartown conservation commission is grappling with a new issue: whether actions taken to stem the erosion can continue after the house is moved.
For months, the situation unfolding at Wasque Point where a rapidly eroding coastal bluff is swiftly approaching an 8,800-square-foot house, has captivated the Island.
The Oak Bluffs selectmen this week appointed Sondra Murphy as the new library director. And Ms. Murphy is already presiding over some big events at the library: a new website, mission statement and logo, and a party complete with mini-golf.
Ms. Murphy, the former children’s librarian, was recommended by a hiring committee, and was appointed Tuesday by the selectmen.
“You did a fabulous job of interviewing,” said selectman Walter Vail, who was on the hiring committee. He noted that Ms. Murphy faced tough competition. “I recommend her highly.”
A Boylston man was arraigned last week on drug charges and for failing to register as a sex offender.
Matthew Paul Tucci, 30, was arraigned Jan. 18 in Edgartown district court on Jan. 17 charges in Oak Bluffs of failing to register as a sex offender, possessing a class A drug (heroin), possessing to distribute a class A drug (heroin), possessing to distribute a class B drug (Clonazepam), and false/misuse of a liquor ID card or license. Judge H. Gregory Williams set bail at $15,000.
In an effort to lower nitrogen amounts in Sengekontacket Pond, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs are embarking on a yearly project to grow oysters in the Major’s Cove area of the pond.
In Edgartown, shellfish constable Paul Bagnall told selectmen Tuesday that the shellfish committee is proposing spending $24,000 on 250,000 oyster seed for the pond. The original plan was to spend $48,500 on 500,000 oysters, but the amount was reduced because of the number of articles submitted for town meeting.
As a strong fund-raising push continues to keep the popular Vineyard radio station WMVY on the air, the Federal Communications Commission Thursday approved the transfer of the station’s 92.7 FM radio signal to Boston radio station WBUR. The MVY radio fund-raising effort is now at 80 per cent of its $600,000 goal, and has drawn support from 48 states and 14 countries.
