Like other towns in the state, Edgartown may look at changing the town clerk from an elected to an appointed position. Edgartown town clerk Wanda Williams told the selectmen Monday that she would like the town to look into making the change.

At a Harvard Law School event a few weeks ago that honored Alan Dershowitz’s career, Larry David sent a video. “Look, the world is divided into two groups of people,” Mr. Dershowitz said, quoting Mr. David, an actor and fellow seasonal Vineyarder. “There are people who don’t know Alan and hate him. People who know Alan and love him. I’m in a third category. I know Alan really well and I hate his guts.”

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission plowed through a packed agenda for over three hours last Thursday night, approving proposals to store landscaping containers in West Tisbury and to dredge part of Tisbury harbor to make way for the return of a whaling ship. A long public hearing focused on outdoor lighting at the Vineyard Assembly of God Church on State Road, with neighbors concerned about the church’s proposal for increased lighting in the parking lot, and a shorter public hearing was held about a proposed propane facility on Evelyn Way.

Renovations began this week on the Edgartown town hall, closing part of the town hall parking lot and one of the entrances to the building.

Edgartown procurement officer Jen O’Hanlon said that the repairs are expected to last until January. The work includes putting a new roof on the building, as well as painting and other small repairs.
