A lean budget, new library and a series of zoning bylaw changes top a hefty 68-article warrant that awaits Edgartown voters at the annual town meeting Tuesday night.

Longtime moderator Philip J. Norton Jr. will preside over the session; the meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Old Whaling Church.

Voters will be asked to approve a $27.5 million budget, up 3.4 per cent over last year, largely due to increased education assessments, a large police and fire department budget and funding for a town dredging project in Sengekontacket Pond.

Edgartown selectmen approved an entertainment renewal license for the Atlantic restaurant on Monday afternoon despite a history of noise complaints from a neighboring hotel.

In a letter to the board, the Harborside Inn general manager Joseph Badot said he is pleased with conditions set by the selectmen but asked for stronger enforcement in the coming season.

It could be a walk in the park, or rather the sculpture garden, for West Tisbury residents at the annual town meeting, after selectmen signed the final purchase and sale agreement for acquiring the Field Gallery on Wednesday.

“It needs to be understood,” selectman Cynthia Mitchell said, “the purchase and sale agreement is essentially keeping the deal in place so the town can vote on it. It’s not the selectmen agreeing to go forward without the support of the town.”

State police arrested former Massachusetts probation chief Milton Britton Sr. last Friday for cocaine trafficking.

Mr. Britton, 65, was found with three small bags of cocaine in his pocket when police met him exiting his Oak Bluffs home in the Sengekontacket condominiums. According to the police report released this week, a subsequent search of his rooms turned up an additional 36 individually-wrapped cellophane bags in his basement ready for distribution. Police found 39 grams in total.
