Boat line governors addressed a petition protesting fare increases at their regular meeting in Woods Hole on Tuesday, but took no action to roll back hikes. Public testimony addressed perceived problems, but also was peppered with praise for the SSA.

The new Oak Bluffs open space and recreation plan will guide the town in stewardship of natural resources. The plan's goals are to address the threat of climate change, reduce nitrogen in ponds, and improve parks and recreational activities.

Boat line governors meet in Woods Hole on Tuesday morning. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Marine Biological Laboratory Candle House, 127 Water street. The SSA waives the cost of travel for Island residents attending meetings on the Cape.

The final version of the state plan steers clear of sand mining off Martha’s Vineyard for now. It also expands protected areas for sea ducks thanks to information from Vineyard birders.

A project to house adolescent mental health services in a new building on the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services campus has taken another step forward. The commission said the new building will not need regional review.

Oak Bluffs is in the throes of another tight budget season, as education costs continue to outpace tax resources. This week the town selectmen gave their blessing to a $26.5 million budget for fiscal year 2016.
