STAY DRY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

We are writing to express our strong conviction regarding the so-called beer and wine issue in Vineyard Haven. Our conviction grows out of a good many years of experience and observation in a considerable number of communities where we have been associated.

EXCELLENT SUMMARY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

The story about the Edgartown Great Pond Estuaries Study was an excellent summary of a problem that has been (visibly) developing for years. Omitted, however, is the contribution of acid rain to nitrogen loading (see Wilcox Report to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission circa 1998?).

FOR NANCY WHITING

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I was saddened to learn of the recent death of Nancy Whiting, former librarian of the West Tisbury library. She made it classy to love books, and generations of up-Islanders benefitted from it.

ROARING SUCCESS

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

FISHING LEGACY LOST

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I’d like to commend Mark Alan Lovewell and the Vineyard Gazette for the excellent story, Owner of Quitsa Strider in Menemsha Sells His Fishing Rights, Ending an Era. It’s important for our coastal communities to better understand the unrelenting obstacles our fishermen are up against, and your story really brought that message home.
