STAY DRY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

We are writing to express our strong conviction regarding the so-called beer and wine issue in Vineyard Haven. Our conviction grows out of a good many years of experience and observation in a considerable number of communities where we have been associated.

TEN YEARS LATER

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

Not being one for sentimentality, here I go for the first time: Two anniversaries are approaching for my husband, Richard and myself. First, moving to the Vineyard full-time 10 years ago, Nov. 5, and second, the sad anniversary of 9/11.

So Many to Thank

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I realize I am not much of a public speaker, but I’m working on that skill.

Here’s what I should have said at our Labor Day library event held at the Katama Airfield.

Could there be a better place to have a fun picnic than at the Right Fork Diner at Katama Airfield? Huge thanks to Jaime and her staff for being so welcoming and helpful. It wouldn’t have happened without you!

LIBRARY OF THE FUTURE

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

The front-page August 30 story about the Edgartown Library describes additional library woes and I want to share my concern. First the slogan, Frankly, We Love our Library, has a negative and apologetic tone. There is enough confusion about the Edgartown Library without promoting a slogan that does not look to the future. The Edgartown Library serves the public well, and there is no reason to be negative and apologetic.

NO PREFERENCE

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I have to question the math and management of the Steamship Authority’s Islander Preferred reservations system. I write this Sunday morning after telephonically punching my way through to the phone reservation center and being told that all of tomorrow (Monday) is sold out — six minutes after they began answering phones at 8 a.m.
