Letters to the Editor

STAY DRY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

We are writing to express our strong conviction regarding the so-called beer and wine issue in Vineyard Haven. Our conviction grows out of a good many years of experience and observation in a considerable number of communities where we have been associated.

SCIENCE HIGH HONORS

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

Congratulations to the entire eighth grade and Karl Nelson, their eighth grade science teacher, on bringing honor and distinction to the West Tisbury School.

The Boston Globe on Sept. 15 ranked West Tisbury School’s eighth grade as the highest performers in the entire state of Massachusetts on the MCAS science test.

CAPABLE MR. BABSON

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I am writing about the resignation of David Babson, former manager of the Trustees of Reservations at Norton Point and on Chappaquiddick. I have read the previous letters and feel they were well written and each has had good points on this matter.

TOO MUCH PROTECTION

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

There comes a time where being overprotective is counterproductive. As a pilot, I have aviation weather at my disposal, so when I heard that all Island roads were being closed at 2 p.m. on Friday due to the public forecasted hurricane conditions, I immediately contacted the communications center, three times, to tell them that aviation weather forecasted no high winds until maybe after 8 p.m. I did notice the curfew finally got postponed to 8 p.m.

FROM QUANSOO ROAD

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I was relieved to read that the Quansoo Beach Association membership took action to reconfigure its leadership. I am proud to have been in a leadership position on that same board a number of years ago. I found the various news reports of the Quansoo access conflict quite distressing during last winter’s months. It is the Vineyard after all and that kind of contentiousness is more often seen in the local political arena.
