A $3.4 million capital campaign to overhaul the Martha’s Vineyard Arena is off and running, leaders have announced.

Affordable housing took center stage in West Tisbury this week, when a long-planned project to build an apartment complex next the Manter Field won strong backing from the planning board on one day, and from voters at a special town meeting the next.

Funi Burdick, who heads a national landmark Shaker village in New Hampshire, will take the helm at the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust.

The closure covering the Cape and Islands has been lifted, the state Division of Marine Fisheries announced Monday. A toxic shellfish bloom has dissipated.

The Edgartown National Bank, the Island’s second oldest bank, will be acquired by the Rockland Trust Company. Due to be completed next spring, the transaction is valued at about $24.5 million.

It’s been bad news for shellfishing on Martha’s Vineyard and beyond in recent days, from a state-ordered closure to the discovery last week of a heavy algae bloom in the Tisbury Great Pond.
