The 22nd annual cross-Island hike, hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission, brought in record numbers, with over 100 walkers starting at Lambert’s Cove at 8 a.m.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School class of 2014 showed promise four years ago as freshmen, their teachers said. At class night Friday they will be recognized for their achievements when more than $1 million is awarded in student scholarships, a first in school history.

Members of the Vineyard music scene are working hard to keep the scene fresh and alive. However the financial constraints of bringing off-Island bands to the Island often make it feel like an uphill battle. But the love of the music keeps them going.

On Thursday afternoon, 10 days before graduation, the small class from the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School gathered at the Polly Hill Arboretum for lunch in the garden.

On the day Jennifer Tseng’s daughter was born, her father called her at the hospital. He called to congratulate her, but also to tell her he was having health problems which at the time were unknown. The illness turned out to be terminal cancer.

Red Flower, White Flower is Ms. Tseng’s first book of poetry since that phone call. In it she looks at the intersection between the extreme emotions that came in the years after her daughter’s birth, and the ways that these emotions converge.

Veterans, law enforcement officials, Coast Guard members and Boy Scouts marched to the beat of a drum and patriotic music during the annual Memorial Day parade Monday. Plus happy birthday wishes were in order for veterans agent Jo Ann Murphy.
