It’s finally happened. I am still busy with my fall clean-ups of the gardens and Christmas and winter are rapidly approaching. I was dismayed last week to hear about winter storm Cleon dropping three feet of snow on Duluth, Minn.

I read the best Calvin Trillin quote this week. “My mother served leftovers for 27 years. A team of anthropologists has been sent in search of the original meal.”

I was thinking of commenting on our weather the last week or so. I can’t remember such an early ground-covering snow like we had last Tuesday. It was especially odd, but beautiful, to see snow cover on trees with so many leaves remaining.

It has finally happened. We’ve taken the inevitable turn into the next season. Those long late summer/early fall days have ended. We had a pretty amazing stretch of beautiful days.

I’m a big fan of Car Talk on NPR. Sadly, it is going off the air as the brothers are about to retire. Hopefully, there will be reruns. Their solution to Daylight Saving Time is to fall back every morning and spring forward every afternoon. They’re brilliant!

Abigail Higgins is a wealth of information. She always has an answer for my garden questions. Recently I rang her concerning dahlias. Mine had experienced a light freeze.
