A plan for Edgartown to purchase a run-down house on Main street will head to the town meeting warrant after selectmen signed off on the proposal this week over objections from the property owner.

Edgartown took another step toward possible ownership of the Yellow House, with the community preservation committee voting to recommend spending $1.5 million to buy the building.

Edgartown voters may be asked to decide this spring to spend $3 million to buy the so-called Yellow House, a run-down property on Main street owned by the Hall family.

One day after Edgartown community preservation committee members voted to allocate funds for the town to acquire the Yellow House on Main street, town leaders said they would hold off on the plan. Selectman Margaret Serpa cited the time constraints of working toward the April town meeting.

I have a fondness for yellow houses. They are not very common in Edgartown right now. Years ago they were more prevalent. If you can imagine it, the Doctor Daniel Fisher house was once painted yellow! Hard to believe its wedding cake splendor was covered in yellow icing.
