New benches and bike racks went up on the grounds of the Yellow House in Edgartown’s Thursday morning as new owners — the town of Edgartown —prepared the property for the holiday weekend.

The town of Edgartown and the Hall family have reached an agreement that is expected to clear the way for the town to take the Yellow House by eminent domain.

Edgartown has the legal right to move forward with acquiring the Yellow House, a Boston attorney representing the town said this week.

One day after Edgartown voters cleared the way for the town to acquire the Yellow House, Benjamin Hall Jr. moved to block any eminent domain proceeding.

With frustration bubbling over among all parties, Edgartown officials made their case Wednesday for a proposal to acquire the dilapidated Yellow House in the heart of downtown.

With the fate of the Yellow House due to be decided by Edgartown voters at the annual town meeting, selectmen hope to spur public dialogue.
