Oak Bluffs residents voted overwhelmingly to ban two-rider moped rentals as part of a bylaw amendment at a special town meeting Tuesday.
Also known as a district election, the single-issue vote will be held simultaneously in all six towns, replacing the traditional town meeting process and individual town elections to determine the outcome.
Oak Bluffs voters on Nov. 4 will decide how many people should be allowed on the back of a rental moped in the latest attempt to further regulate the controversial two-wheeled tourist vehicles.
Mopeds, wetland protections and updated town personnel bylaws will all be on the Oak Bluffs Nov. 4 special town meeting warrant.
A total of 166 voters approved all four articles on the warrant in just under half an hour, the most pressing one dealing with logistical fund transfers to pay various town personnel.
At the Tisbury special town meeting Sept. 30, voters will decide on new licensing fees for dogs and dog kennels, including a proposed new bylaw detailing how a kennel is defined.
