When the new season of Hell’s Kitchen: Battle Of The States premieres next week, a Vineyard chef will be among the competitors looking to make his mark.

Next Level Chef contestant Ryan Scanlon made his homecoming on Thursday at Alchemy in Edgartown, where he first discovered his passion for cooking as a teenager. 

The Edgartown select board voted Nov. 25 to approve a filming permit for the unnamed show. The shoot is expected to take place from Dec. 6-8.

The Oak Bluffs select board approved filming for the second season of the reality television series, but several residents said it casts the Island in a poor light.

Paying homage to the Vineyard’s history as an African American vacation hub, the new season follows 12 young Black professionals as they navigate relationships in their palatial Oak Bluffs rental.
