The Vineyard is not the tiny, sunny Island that birthed the smooth and rhythmic sounds of reggae music, but it will be the one to host some of the genre’s legends on August 14.
The Wailers, most famous for their work with Bob Marley, are performing at The Lampost in Oak Bluffs at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $32 in advance and $40 the day of the show.
Special guests include Junior Toots, Mike Martin y Los Rootsticks and Selectah Niko of One Drop Sound System. The show is presented by Nectar’s Presents and Rolling Rock.
Music Makers Band Together for Library
The Flying Elbows string band featuring Jemima James, Dan Waters and Al Schackman performs tonight, July 24, at the Grange Hall as part of the Tuesdays at Twilight concert series to benefit the West Tisbury Library.
A Musical Farewell
It’s goodbye, but just for now.
Before departing for college, regional high school graduate Noah Stuber delivers a final summer concert on Saturday, July 21 in The Base at the Alexandra Gagnon Teen Center at the YMCA. Noah performs original music and lyrics and captivates audiences with his smooth vocals and effortless guitar playing.
Hooked on a Feelin’
E pluribus unum. From many musical sensations comes one Super Group to perform at Hooked seafood restaurant in Oak Bluffs on July 28 at 9 p.m. The musicians are Rick Marotta, drummer for Steely Dan and Paul Simon; Joe Caro, guitarist for Carly Simon and Lenny Kravitz; Neil Stubenhaus, bass guitarist for Sting and Barbra Streisand, and Jon Gilutin, keyboard for James Taylor and Diana Ross.

John Cruz
Grammy winner singer-songwriter John Cruz has returned to the Vineyard to open his East Coast tour with three evening performances aboard the Black Dog’s Tall Ship Alabama. The first performance took place last night, July 19. He also plays tonight and tomorrow night. The concerts begin at 5 p.m. and cruise the Vineyard Sound for several hours, returning at 8 p.m.
The benefit concert at the Tabernacle on Tuesday will be quite the sight to see. More importantly, it will be the one to hear.
David Crohan, celebrated pianist and former owner of David’s Island House in Oak Bluffs, is performing with several other musicians to benefit Freedom Guide Dogs breeding and training facility in New York and the Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group.
