Tennis Scholars

Vineyard Youth Tennis has selected four year-round Island children to receive full scholarships for one week of tennis camp at Adidas Tennis Camps this summer. Avery Hazell, Brian Donegan, Phoebe Dandeneau and Ryan Sawyer were selected based on essays they wrote describing their dedication to Vineyard Youth Tennis and enthusiasm for the sport of tennis. The children will have a choice of two camp locations: University of Massachusetts, Amherst or University of Connecticut.

Can you handle the heat? Roscoe Tanner brings his 153-mile-an-hour serve to the Vineyard Youth Tennis center on Tuesday, June 29. At the 1978 U.S. Open, his serve actually broke the net. But don’t worry, he’s not looking to ace you. Tanner, once ranked fourth in the world, will be holding clinics all day long. High schoolers are from 9 to 10:30 a.m, adult women from 1 to 3 p.m., and men from 2 to 5 p.m.
