Runners from across the Island and elsewhere gathered for this year’s annual Chilmark Road Race under a clear blue sky Saturday, celebrating a tradition entering its 37th year on Martha’s Vineyard.

Visitors streamed into Menemsha on Thursday evening for a rare look inside the Island’s commercial fishing industry. The first event drew a young, vibrant crowd to the harbor, where most of the Island’s commercial fleet was docked and fishermen offered demonstrations in their trade.

August 2 was a perfect summer Sunday with which to begin the Holmes Hole August series. The morning race was two trips around the harbor on a rising tide.
