A six-year-old public-private project that was aimed at creating affordable housing and an expanded area of conservation land in Chilmark has landed in Dukes County superior court. The project dates to 2007 and involves the town, the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank and the Howard B. Hillman family.

Almost 14 years after a dramatic and highly-publicized murder trial on the Vineyard, the case was revisited Thursday in the Edgartown courthouse.

The subject at hand was a hearing on whether to have a new trial for Troy A. Toon, a Boston man who was convicted in June 1999 for the murder of Gary D. Moreis.

A Connecticut man headed to the Vineyard was arrested Sunday night at the Steamship Authority terminal in Woods Hole after allegedly claiming to have a bomb in his vehicle.

Krzysztof Malz, 45, of New Britain, Conn., will be charged with a threat concerning the location of dangerous items (explosives), according to a statement from Falmouth police Capt. Douglas DeCosta.

The Martha’s Vineyard Tactical Response team, a highly trained group of police officers, was created to quickly respond to emergencies on a geographically isolated Island. But last week the team was called to join officers from around the state in a large manhunt for one of the suspects in the Boston marathon bombing.

Edgartown police chief Antone Bettencourt said Monday that the Island team, a highly-skilled group of officers from most Island police departments, was called to Boston last Friday to assist with a search for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
