Last night I drove home from a trip off-Island through heavy holiday rush hour traffic.

It was a dark morning, unusually dark, even for December, because it was cloudy, and a keen and searching wind blew shivery snowflakes out of the northeast in ever-increasing numbers.

The critical need for affordable housing on Martha’s Vineyard is by now beyond dispute. But how to solve this pressing problem needs all the careful consideration and collective good faith the Island can muster.
