The Trustees of Reservations’ three-acre garden Mytoi on Chappaquiddick is the inspiration for an art exhibit in Oak Bluffs that opens today and continues through the coming two weeks. Two artists, Don Sibley of West Tisbury and Robert Baart of Brookline, have stories to tell about Mytoi. They tell it through words, in ink and paint.

The two-hour opening reception begins tonight at 6 p.m. at Dragonfly Gallery, 91 Dukes County avenue. Close to 40 works of art will be on exhibit.

On steamy summer afternoons, the aroma of chocolate fudge, peanut butter fudge or maybe caramel-smothered cashew brittle mingles in the seaside air in downtown Edgartown. It seeps out of 21 North Water street to sweeten the stale sidewalk air cocooning the VTA bus drop-off two blocks westward.

Police issued an array of criminal charges, including motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence of alcohol, against the young driver of the car that crashed last Thursday, killing an 18-year-old Oak Bluffs girl.

The charges against Kelly McCarron, 17, of Oak Bluffs were announced Wednesday by West Tisbury police.

On June 11 a 2004 Toyota Camry driven by Ms. McCarron went off the Edgartown-West Tisbury Road. A funeral for the only passenger, Jena Pothier, was held on Wednesday.

The state guidelines for dealing with the pandemic now recognize the fact that for the great majority of people who catch it, swine flu is not a serious health problem. So public health officials have ceased daily county-by-county updates.

Speed was a factor and charges are expected against the 17-year-old driver in the single-car accident on Edgartown-West Tisbury Road that claimed the life of 18-year-old Jena Pothier of Oak Bluffs Thursday evening, police said yesterday.

West Tisbury police chief Beth Toomey said charges will be brought against Kelly McCarron, 17, of Oak Bluffs, who was seriously injured in the crash and remains in serious but stable condition at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

A story in Friday’s Gazette about the Walter Manning homestead reported inaccurately on who will live on the property. Paul and Theresa Manning will build a new home on the site. An apartment in the house will be for June Manning. The Gazette regrets the error.
