Name That Team
The Martha’s Vineyard summer collegiate baseball club is hosting a contest to name the team. Entries will be accepted through Sunday, Nov. 21, with the winning name chosen in early December. Once a team name is chosen, a color scheme and logo will be designed and team merchandise will be made available for purchase.
Suggestions can be e-mailed to [email protected]. The contest winner will receive VIP seats for the 2011 season.
Some people have all the luck. While Phoebe Potts isn’t one of them, she does say, “I was the right female infertile cartoonist at the right time.” Indeed she was, and because of that, the luck this time is ours.
Alpaca Open House
Belly full, tryptophan kicking in and making you so, so tired? Well, instead of snoozing in front of the same old, same old football game, head out to Island Alpaca’s Thanksgiving open house. The farm is open every day from Thursday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 28.
Take a self-guided walking tour on the twenty acre spread, meet and greet the friendly alpaca in the viewing area and enjoy tasty treats and a cup of hot cider.
Turkey Tennis
Like to serve and volley with your turkey leg bone? Or perhaps you’re a baseline grinder digging away at the stuffing and cranberry sauce. Don’t know where these mixed metaphors are leading? Well, to the 15th annual Turkey Open Tennis Tournament at the Vineyard Tennis Center, of course.
The action gets under way on Nov. 12 to 14. There will be mixed doubles for all levels including juniors.
Fitness Smorgasbord
The Vineyard Tennis Center Workout & Spa is offering a fitness sampler, a sample of classes for those new to fitness of five classes — yoga, zumba, cycling, pilates, strength and conditioning — taught by expert instructors. Classes are on five Mondays, from Nov. 15 to Dec. 13, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $99. Please call the center at 508-696-8000 with any questions.
Hunting Talk
Listen, don’t shoot at Long Point Wildlife Refuge’s talk and walk on hunting traditions at the refuge.
The program begins at noon on Sunday, Nov. 21. and ends with a chowdown of venison chili. Anyone interested meet at the visitor’s center at the end of Deep Bottom Road. The event is free.
