Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has a few nice animals who need good homes.

Last week the shelter featured a beautiful dog named Sasha who was quickly adopted. Now a loving dog named Bella has come to take her place. She is a boxer cross and as loving a dog as anyone could hope for. She is completely house-trained, loves children, adults, cats and other dogs. She minds well and would make a wonderful family pet. Please come to see her.

The cause of the fire that destroyed the Coast Guard boathouse and surrounding pier in Menemsha last July is unknown, a Coast Guard investigative team concluded in a report released early Wednesday afternoon. The cause may have been a lit cigarette left on the pier, or it may have been faulty wiring either in the boathouse or in the pier, the report found. “After completing all reasonable and logical leads . . . the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time,” the report concludes.

Sometime this summer, Vineyarders will have another opportunity to buy freshly-harvested blue mussels from Vineyard Sound. The forecast is even better for the year 2012, if all goes according to plan for Menemsha fishermen Alec Gale and Tim Broderick.

The two men have big plans. They have been working with the town of Chilmark, the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group and others on an experimental blue mussel farm off the north shore of the Vineyard.
