The 23rd Annual CROP Walk is Sunday, Oct. 27 with walkers meeting at 1:25 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Church on Franklin street in Vineyard Haven. The walk route is to Oak Bluffs and back again.
Pledges benefit local organizations working to alleviate hunger on the Island. Last year walkers and supporters raised $23,447, which brought the 22-year total raised to $359,085. A group of generous Islanders are pledging 20 cents for every dollar raised this year.

It’s the time of year when dressing up in your alter ego superman character is embraced, when candy corn makes an appearance and ghosts come out to play. And on the Vineyard, Halloween is a weeklong event, just as it should be.
Celebrations begin Friday night at Alex’s Place with a middle school dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Costume contests, prizes, black lights and a full light show are in order.
On Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Edgartown businesses say yes to trick-or-treating.
The Martha’s Vineyard Bible Church will not hold its regular morning service this Sunday, Oct. 27. Instead, there will be a potluck supper with worship and testimony sharing at 5 p.m. that afternoon. The church meets at the American Legion Hall at 35 William street in Vineyard Haven. The congregation will return to its regular 10 a.m. Sunday service on Nov. 3.
