Alex’s Place, a community center where teenagers can draw comics, learn to play the ukulele and escape the numerous pressures of Island life, has a new director with a new philosophy for the space.

Reproductive health care on the Vineyard is notably lacking in education, communication and access. This was the conclusion of eight rural scholars who recently spent two weeks on the Island studying the issue.

In general, Martha’s Vineyard schools did well, in particular the Tisbury School which scored at least 20 percentage points above the state average in all grades and subjects for meeting or exceeding expectations.
