Sebastian Keefe’s favorite job, possibly ever, was working at Poole’s Fish Market in Menemsha. But being a rockstar isn’t a bad second.

Last Tuesday, West Tisbury natives Sebastian and his brother Joe Keefe made their first late night show appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with their band Family of the Year. On Thursday, the band performs on Conan on TBS at 11 p.m.

The Pit Stop refuses to go gently into that good night. This Sunday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. the place will be rocking, thanks to three-time All-Ireland fiddle champion, Dylan Foley.

Mr. Foley was a student of the great Rose Flanagan. You remember her, of course

From the gleaming russet wood of pint-sized instruments, to the shining buckles on children’s dress shoes, to the carefully-practiced notes of the Hallelujah Chorus, Thursday night’s All-Island Winter Strings Concert was full of polish. About 150 students participate in the strings program each year, learning violin, viola, cello and — in some cases — bass under the instruction of Nancy Jephcote and Chelsea Pennebaker.

The curly-headed cherub strumming away on a harp is a time-honored icon. Try and consider Valentine’s Day without the sight of Cupid, his bow and arrows at rest for the moment, offering up a musical interlude. But what if Cupid had been allowed to grow up, pack on layers of muscle and play lacrosse and football, grinding out yards on the gridiron in front of cheering spectators. Would he still play the harp? And if so, what would he look like?

He would look like Nathaniel Horwitz, a 16-year-old junior at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

On Sunday, Dec. 16, beginning at 4 p.m. the 11th annual Songs of Peace and Hope and Light concert will be performed at the Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven. Actually, performed does not do the program justice. For part of the concert the audience is invited to join in and make their own voices heard as part of a community sing.
