Letters to the Editor
BANISH BIGOTRY
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
I was dismayed to read about the anti-immigrant blog that is spreading poison about our Brazilian Islanders. I hope our Brazilian immigrants know that you are most welcome on Martha’s Vineyard. All of you whom I have met are hardworking, honest people, who are also warm and easy to talk to. It has been a pleasure to get to know you, and I believe the vast majority of Islanders feel the same.
CLINIC IN CRISIS
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
This is a crisis — our clinic is at risk.
Family Planning of Martha’s Vineyard has been providing reproductive health care to Island men, woman and teens for nearly three decades. In 2010, our community clinic provided safe, confidential and affordable care for over 1,000 clients, greater than eight per cent of the total year-round population.
PRAISE RUPERT
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
The following letter was sent to the Tisbury selectmen reacting to complaints about a rooster in the neighborhood:
CAPT. JOE CRESSY
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
Chappy and Martha’s Vineyard have lost one of their most extraordinary citizens. Joe Cressy’s intellect, integrity, kindness and zest for life were matched by few. One of Joe’s great loves and pleasure came from being on the Edgartown fire department. And so my dear friend, rest assured I shall be on this year’s Fourth of July’s parade route and will wave to your truck and the legend that once rode her.
Love you, Joe.

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
UNVARNISHED TRUTH
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
Stark and troubling as it was to read, Liz Durkee’s “What Climate Change Means to You” on the Gazette Commentary Page last Friday was a breath of fresh air. It is the unvarnished truth, a description of what is happening right now — today — and what will intensify in the years to come.
