Letters to the Editor

The following is an open letter to Brian Roberts, chief executive officer of Comcast:

Dear Mr. Roberts:

As the chief executive of a large communications network you can appreciate the importance of having access to 21st century technology. As a homeowner on Martha’s Vineyard you can also appreciate how important that technology is to both seasonal as well as year-round residents.

NO PREFERENCE

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I have to question the math and management of the Steamship Authority’s Islander Preferred reservations system. I write this Sunday morning after telephonically punching my way through to the phone reservation center and being told that all of tomorrow (Monday) is sold out — six minutes after they began answering phones at 8 a.m.

POLICING GREENLANDS

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

Littlefield Greenlands, the conservation commission would like to remind the public of the history behind the acquisition of this property and its value to the Island.

HURTFUL LESSON

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

Dating back to the early 1940s when the Steamship Authority’s ferry would leave from New Bedford, it has been a tradition for my family to vacation in the summer on Martha’s Vineyard. Therefore, when my grandsons were born, this tradition continued.

Routinely in the morning, the boys (now 11 and 13) and I would have our breakfast and then read a few chapters from our respective books. After reading at least three chapters, we would have a discussion.
