Discussion continues on a controversial plan to more than double the size of the Vineyard Haven grocery store. Issues involving the municipal parking lot adjacent to the store will be the subject of a public meeting with the Tisbury selectmen on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Tisbury senior center.

The General Services Administration has received three letters of interest for ownership of the Gay Head Light, as planning and fundraising efforts get under way to move the lighthouse which is threatened by severe erosion. The lighthouse has been declared surplus property and the town of Aquinnah hopes to take ownership of the historic tower.

One of the letters of interest is from the town and was sent earlier this month.

The Tisbury EMS department has been dipping into its overtime pay budget to ensure full coverage for emergency response, ambulance coordinator Tracy Jones told the town selectmen this week. Ms. Jones said the department is having trouble attracting personnel to fill shifts, and that many shifts are being paid on an hourly basis rather than a stipend in order to meet coverage requirements. The town has two licensed ambulances, one of which must be staffed around the clock seven days a week by a paramedic and an EMT.

After a study of options, Steamship Authority governors Tuesday considered a recommendation to replace the aging freight ferry Governor with a 235-foot freight vessel similar in size to the ferry Martha’s Vineyard.

The Edgartown selectmen Monday approved changes to aquaculture regulations that will allow town shellfish constable Paul Bagnall to write citations for violations.

A first-time violation of town aquaculture bylaws would be accompanied by a $100 penalty, and a second violation, which would come after a week, would have a $500 fine. Under the previous regulations, any violations would go before the selectmen, who would schedule a hearing and write a letter to the offender.“By the time it gets to the board there’s been some fines issued,” Mr. Bagnall said.
