Tisbury selectmen issued a warning to town trash pickup vendors and truck delivery companies this week after complaints continued to surface about early morning deliveries in violation of a town bylaw. Building inspector Ken Barwick told the selectmen Tuesday that he had spoken with both Bruno’s and ABC companies, but complaints continued about truck activity before 7 a.m. Mr. Barwick said he was also talking with other truckers who deliver in town.
A town bylaw prohibits noise before 7 a.m. in residential neighborhoods.
A months-long dispute between the Oak Bluffs selectmen and a Circuit avenue businessman came to a head this week when the owner of an unbuilt lot at 16 Circuit avenue saw fresh opposition to his latest proposal for a business venture.
At a meeting nearly two weeks ago, the East Chop Association voted to recommend that the road be closed between Brewster and Munroe avenues.
A public meeting held by the Chilmark selectmen this week saw vocal opposition to the idea of alcohol sales in restaurants.
Chilmark is the last dry town on the Vineyard. The selectmen received a letter of interest two weeks ago from Bob and Sarah Nixon, owners of the Menemsha and Beach Plum Inns and the Home Port Restaurant, about allowing alcohol sales in restaurants.
Granted an extension to respond to a state ethics commission decision, gubernatorial candidate and Cape and Islands State Sen. Dan Wolf will now remain in office until at least Sept. 19.
Mr. Wolf announced last Thursday that he would resign his seat on August 29 and suspend his campaign for governor because of an ethics commission decision that his partial ownership of Cape Air created a conflict of interest.
In a statement on Wednesday this week, Mr. Wolf announced that he was granted an extension and will present a petition to the ethics commission next month.
