Film
Daily Show with Jon Stewart regular Wyatt Cenac stars in Medicine For Melancholy, a film that begins with two African-American twenty-somethings who wake up in bed together having no recollection of how they arrived there. The cinematic drama follows their next day in San Francisco, as they shrug off sleep but not quite each other.

Movie Night
This Friday, Oct. 2, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society presents The Headless Woman at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven at 7:30 p.m. The Spanish-language film from Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel tells the story of a bourgeois woman (played by Maria Onetto) who accidentally runs over something while driving on a remote dirt road. In the days following the incident, she becomes dazed and emotionally disconnected from the people and events in her life, obsessed with the possibility that she may have killed someone.
Jessica Carlson of New York and Chilmark, is 15, and about to appear as the female lead in the Universal Studios film Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, about teenagers and vampires. The film, which also features Salma Hayek and Willem Dafoe, is based on Darren Shan’s popular vampire book series, The Saga of Darren Shan. This past summer, at the Peaked Hill home of her parents, David and Catha Carlson, she was exuberantly talking about being an actress.
The opening scene of Pet Peeves, a short film written and directed by actress and longtime Chilmark summer denizen Brooke Adams, begins with a pretty, perky twentysomething in blonde, braided pigtails named Sherry (Sunny Mabrey) wandering from her new home in Hollywood to a neighbor’s bachelor pad for a cup of sugar. Instead, she gets a little something sweet of a different sort from the chiseled man after she startles him from swimming nude laps in the pool.
