The History of Sound comes to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center this weekend, a movie adaptation of a book of short stories written by Ben Shattuck.

Former Massachusetts secretary of state and longtime seasonal Island visitor Michael Connolly will screen his new feature film, Unfinished Business, at Edgartown Cinemas on Tuesday, Sept. 16. at 7 p.m.

Bubbles and excitement flowed at the Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival opening reception Thursday evening. Screenings continue through Sunday Sept. 7 at the Film Center in Vineyard Haven.

The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival returns next week for its 20th year.

The Farmer and the Shark, a new documentary, highlights Craig Kingsbury’s role in Jaws, along with other Islanders who helped turn the almost failed picture into a piece of movie history. 

U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley was on the Island Saturday for the premiere of She Dared To Dream, a documentary about the lawmaker made by filmmaker and frequent Vineyard visitor Abby Ginzberg.
