Farm & Garden
I love cloudy and cool days for working in the garden. The weather at the beginning of the week made me completely happy.
What I planned for my opening paragraph — the lovely foggy morning on Tuesday — was derailed by my return trip from Aquinnah that afternoon.
It’s been a particularly windy spring. I’m not a fan. I can take the cold rains and/or snow. I do not like hot and humid, but I can tolerate it.
Since I write on Tuesday for a Wednesday morning pick-up, I missed discussing last Thursday’s impressive rainfall. Violet helped pile bags of compost on the edge of my driveway. The water was rushing and threatened to come in the kitchen door. Yikes. On one of the job sites, a gutter failed and filled a large stone planting pot. Nicely spread compost and mulch formed rivers into lawns. Sigh!
The last few chilly days is just early spring hanging in there before the hot, humid summer is upon us. On Tuesday, I spent some time regretting I had put the long underwear away.
We’ve had a series of beautiful days. As I said last week, there is nothing like the month of May. Everyday, there is something new to enjoy. Finally, the cabbages, broccoli, collards and spigarello are in the ground.
