Women’s Network

Martha’s Vineyard Women’s Network will host a social get-together at the Cellar Bar in Edgartown on Thursday, March 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Bring your business cards and a friend to the bar, located downstairs from Atria restaurant. The meeting is free and open to all members and nonmembers. Cash bar and dinner items will be available.

The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living is holding its second in a series of cultural luncheons for 2012 on Saturday, March 3, from noon to 2 p.m.,

Their ages range from 25 to 77, their backgrounds in dance range from ballet to belly dance. But among this group of women, age is rarely a subject for discussion. The women have been meeting since 2008 to practice improvisational dance in Sally Cohn’s beautiful studio in the woods down Pennywise Path in Edgartown. And as for training — it’s left at the door in favor of exploring improvisational movement in the context of the group.

It is a place for parents to trade concerns about child-rearing while the children play, and a place for high school students who may want to study education down the road to gain valuable early childhood teaching experience.

But with the phasing out of the early childhood education vocational program at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, the Martha’s Vineyard Family Center, with its comfy blue couches and pleasing play spaces for children, will now need to relocate.

Slow Speed Dating

On Friday, March 9, beginning at 7:30 a.m. there will be a social mixer breakfast at an as yet unnamed local restaurant. The idea is the brainchild of Mal Jones and described as a form of slow speed-dating.

The mixer maxes out at four men and women, first to register are in, which includes a free breakfast.

Harbor View Comedy

Comedy is coming back to the Harbor View Hotel, and we’re not talking about just watching a buddy after drinking one too many Manhattans at the bar.

The professionals are coming to the Island again. The show features comediens Greg Howell, Danny Kelly and Carolyn Plummer.

Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 at the door.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m. for this 21 and older show.
